Rise - A New Generation - 50 minute social / cultural documentary
Synopsis: One Stone High School in Boise, Idaho is the only school that is actually run by the students, who make up 2/3 of the board of directors. Kids explore a new way forward, where their voices are truly counted. Their methods and ideas are an example that any school could draw from to change the balance of power and ignite student leadership and learning. Education is evolving and this could be the roadmap.
Students take risks, encourage failure, focus on design thinking and empathy, and approach learning in a way that can move as quickly and fluidly as Silicon Valley, a stark departure from the current industrial-age education system. Their students show up to national education conferences and find they are the only kids on the speaking roster.
Chronicling the second year of operations of the radically different One Stone high school throughout 2017/2018, our embedded film crew captured a historical year that could mark a tipping point in the future of high school design. If these kids are the future, the future is bright.
