With all those cinematic influences that resonate in the film, Lynee ramsay manages to captures her own atmospheric world that is depressing and haunting at the same time. In all its bleak beauty and uneven structure where there is not much of advancement, lies the intimate poetry of human emotions that balances the consistent dullness in the mundane life of the marginalized lot. Not to mention the superb understated performances of child actors who go through emotions that are of suppressed innocence and difficult to evoke but they seem effortless.. A powerful debut..
