The Königstuhl is a 567 meters high mountain at Heidelberg, and thus the highest mountain from little Odenwald.
Since the first June 1907, the Heidelberg Mountain railway runs a funicular up the peak (since 1890 to the Molkenkur).
More than 1200 levels includes the "stairway to heaven", one from Heidelberg Castle directly to the summit of the Königstuhl leading irregular staircase from rough-hewn sandstones.

The Ottheinrich construction, one of the palaces of the castle is one of the most important German Renaissance buildings.
The castle ruins of red sandstone rises 80 meters above the valley on the northern slope of the Königstuhl and dominates the picture of the old town.
