KUBO, Priva, and Svensson are hosting Casey Houweling who probably holds the world record for the highest yielding commercial production of tomatoes. Surprisingly he does his trick with lower water and energy consumption. In this seminar he will share his vision on sustainable growing, and point out how technological innovations enabled him to achieve this. John van der Wilk of Priva will explain how technology enables sustainable cultivation. The next generation of greenhouse cultivation pays a contribution by saving energy up to 35% and at an at least equal production. Combined with a healthy growing environment this decreases the pressure of pests and diseases. Important for sustainable cultivation is an efficient use of fossile energy. Energy saving screens play a crucial role in this. New greenhouse concepts like the Ultra Clima greenhouse facilitate the use of these screens, resulting in substantial reduction of energy consumption. Svensson developed several screens that combine energy saving with climate optimization, leading to higher yields of a better quality.
