Last week, we shared Boe's Story - a boar who suffered terribly at a pig semen collection facility in Brisbane. This is the story of the other boars at the same facility.
This video shows footage from a week-long investigation early this year. The Australian Pork industry uses artificial insemination for breeding, as it is more profitable and efficient than natural breeding. Artificial insemination is used in both free range and factory farmed pigs.
The only time the boars leave their tiny, filthy stall is for semen collection. They receive no exercise, no enrichment, and cannot even turn around. They are neglected, starved, abused.
This facility operates on property owned by Biosecurity Queensland- the very department who are responsible for the welfare of farmed animals. Footage was provided to them over a month ago, but as far as we know, no charges have been laid, and the facility is still open and operating.
