Video (color, sound)
Unearthed debris used as relics in a geomantic incantation. A lyrical contemplation of winter’s ghosts. This project is a conversation with the traditions of lyrical and trance film in avant-garde cinema and with contemporary forms of free associative poetry. Language as it appears in this video is entirely symbolic, but the majority of the piece is unaccompanied by words. The soundtrack is highly textured and characters appear to be communicating through sound and gesture although they are dislocated from each other in time. This format is a way to freely associate images and sounds and build a narrative centered on mood and atmosphere rather than plot. Every shot is evocative of winter and it’s introspective, slow pacing. The figures seem to be more like apparitions than living people.
