The Hobsons Bay Community Fund is a perpetual philanthropic fund established in 2006 to provide financial grants to community groups and organisations operating in the Melbourne bayside municipality of Hobsons Bay. The municipality takes in the suburbs of Spotswood, Newport, Williamstown, Altona, Altona North, Altona Meadows, Laverton and Seabrook.
The fund is governed by a small group of local citizens and although strongly supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council, it is independent and arms length from the council. Projects funded must benefit and strengthen the Hobsons Bay community for present and future generations.
Since its inception, the Hobsons Bay Community Fund has been investing donations made by local businesses and individuals into a professionally managed investment fund run by the much larger Australian Communities Foundation. That means the Hobsons Bay Community Fund does not incur any overhead costs, ensuring every dollar donated goes directly to the benefit of the local community. Annual community grants are made from interest earned from the base investment fund, which has continued to grow annually.
Donations to the Hobsons Bay Community Fund are tax deductible.
