Playing the role of underdog in the Class 5A state playoffs, the Morrilton High School football team went toe-to-toe with the No. 2-ranked team in the state, but a late touchdown gave Camden Fairview a 28-21 win over the Devil Dogs in first round action Friday night. The Cardinals broke a 21-all tie on a touchdown with less than four minutes remaining. The Devil Dogs' chance to tie it ended when David Ford was sacked on fourth down at the Fairview 32-yard line. Ford finished with 190 yards passing and two touchdowns, including a 74-yard strike to sophomore Toney Hawkins that gave Morrilton an early 7-0 lead. Hawkins finished with a career-high 143 yards receiving on four catches. The Devil Dogs end their season with a final record of 6-5.
