The Linux Foundation and OS-Climate (OS-C) os-climate.org/ are forming the OS-Climate Foundation, an open source collaboration community and non-profit platform of data and modeling for scenario-based predictive analysis to accurately forecast and price climate-related risk and opportunity in investing and banking. The Foundation’s Data Commons will develop a publicly available database of corporate climate-related metrics that is rigorous, transparent, and available at no cost through an open source license.
The community will share cost, intellectual property, and effort to jointly build the platform, while organizing input from thousands of modeling and data experts. The Linux Foundation is the largest and most successful host of complex open source community projects worldwide, with more than 1,400 corporate, government, NGO, and academic institution members and more than 30,000 individual contributors of technical expertise that have generated over $16 billion in shared value. One purpose of OS-Climate is to interconnect, enhance, and help to scale impact of open source work by academia and leading organizations such as 2Dii and the World Resources Institute.
The webinar will:
• Summarize extensive research on user needs and use cases
• Outline OS-Climate’s modeling and data roadmap
• Describe how large-scale open source initiatives and the Linux Foundation work
• Provide options for getting involved
