GENRE: Historical Drama
The short film Lillian Code is an anachronistic journey into the wilderness of Northern British Columbia, inspired by the history and legend of Lillian Alling, a mysterious Russian woman who walked alone from New York to Siberia in 1928.
Shot in soviet-inspired black & white and scored by dark synths and haunting theremin, Lillian Code is a stylized period piece exploring themes of social separation and the search for paths of spiritual communication that transcend technology.
In 1928, after spending the winter in prison, Lillian attempts her solo trek into the northern British Columbian wilderness in search of passage to Siberia. Her mysterious journey follows the Yukon Telegraph Trail, bringing her in contact with the isolated men who maintain the telegraph lines.
