What would happen to an ectocarpus apical cell if its cell wall thickness gradient was not adequate?
The thickness gradient is characterised by three parmeters : low point, high point, and slope between them.
In this simulation, we altered the gradient by only changing the slope, leaving low and high levels to their measured values.
This shows how an inadequate gradient changes the wall stress distribution in the dome, resulting in modifications in both shape and growth speed.

Pink line: expected shape (same as green, just translated);
Blue line: simulation assuming a given cell wall thickness gradient
