It was an international competition with thousands of entries.
I did not expect to win.
I won the competition.
I became a semi-famous guitarist with a Vimeo video that has reasonably poor audio of a song I wrote 11 years ago when I was 15.
I'm an artist, I just happen to play guitar also and because of and in spite of.
My primary focus in life has always been writing and singing the words that I write to melodies and counter melodies over chord progressions which I have composed. The guitar has always stood stoicly on my knee the way an old friend stands besides the decisions you make and the paths you take. Very much the way a hunter relies on his gun, the way a dog relies on its nose, the way a canooer relies on his oar, the way a survivor relies on his faith, I rely on my guitar. It is a tool, a conduit, a counselor, a sage, a friend and an extension of my subconcious.
I recently released my first interactive instructional series with/for Truefire.com if you like this Telecaster style. It's called 'Ladd Smith's Modern Nashville Guitar'
