Open. it began with a beard.

OPEN. is an original dark fairy tale featuring live music, puppetry, mask, dance, social commentary and dreamscape.
Our entrance point for this project came from the old folktale of Bluebeard, a story about a serial killer who marries women, chops them up and hides them in a secret chamber. We began with a burning question: If the dismembered women could speak, what would they say?
OPEN. is not the story of Bluebeard. It is, however, the story of blue and beard, and the act of opening. The plots and characters grew from the experiences and personal archetypes of our group as we sought to answer the central question: How are we complicit in our own ‘dismemberment’?
A woman is drawn to the edge of a river. She is ferried across to wed a shadow with a blue beard. The next morning he is gone. What remains is a key and a series of doors all of which she may open and one which she may not.
