Journey, memories, tradition, dreams and courage take form through my first public performance: “Remind me to remember “2010 ©️Ciriaca+erre
held at La Mama theatre in New York, Palazzo Reale in Milano and the Italian Istitute of Culture in Los Angeles.
I left my roots when I was 19 years old. I felt the urgency to leave and discover the life and world.
The humans history is about migrations.
I came from a south of Italy family where my grandmother use to share her love by preparing food. I have been always fascinated to watching her while preparing the dough for making the pasta. She use to tell me the story about her childhood when her mum didn’t want cooking for her and her siblings her husband was away for days working as a shepherd and he didn’t have to much to eat and nobody cooking for him.
The relationship between women and food are so ancient. For women the kitchens and cooking have also become symbols of subservience and oppressions that relegate them into the domestic life.
With this performance I talking about fierce to leave the family, the tradition and the role that society assigned for women to finally follow the authentic self and the dreams.
As a woman and mum we use to take care of others more then ourselves.
I believe it is important to remember our roots as much as our dreams and destiny.
