A perspective view is organized around one or more vanishing points. These points which not really are,
stem from parallel lines that will never join. It is therefore the imperfection of the drawing that evokes this name of «point».
«Ektachrome» associates the members of a family as so many construction lines that come together in this imaginary point that embodies the elsewhere, the foreigner, the overseas territory, what comes out of the drawing.
Made from super 8 anonymous films in the 70s, this film made from a generative program evokes that idealized point where all the lines, the family members, seem to be able to come together in a perfect identity and unity. This point of perfection seems to be located in foreign countries described by the grandiloquent comments that the father of the family recorded, as a conscientious amateur filmmaker.
«Ektachrome» is about a time when amateur filmmaking techniques were combined with the recent democratization of travel around the world. Thus, a new visual concept was popularized, which Virilio called «dromoscopy», where it is the spectator who literally throws himself into the landscape thanks to vehicles, such as planes, and sighting devices, such as cameras.
Playing with the chromatic separation of colours as well as the grains of the silver film, «Ektachrome» deconstructs the amateur cinematographic technique as well as the figuration to keep only the emotion of the ephemeral reach of this famous vanishing point in which an appearance of family happiness seems to condense.
