Hi, I'm Linda Ratcliff, bringing you a Habit for Your Healthy Music Habitat.
And today I'm wearing a t-shirt that says, "Take It Slow".
No this is the mantra for my lifestyle at this stage of my life, but it's also a good saying to follow for how you approach a new tune.
I tend to rush in, I'm so excited about the new tune,
and I want to play it up to speed with all the ornamentations I can hear in my head right off the bat.
But that's not the proper way to approach a new tune.
Take it Slow.
Look for the "hard section" (there's always a tricky on in every tune). Work that one over real good, real slow, until you get it.
And then, finallly, when you've got the melody under your belt, then you can start taking it up to tempo a bit more and adding your variations."
