The University of Hawai'i Women's Basketball team hosts its second tournament of the season with the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown, Friday, Nov. 25 - Sunday, Nov. 27. Playing at the Stan Sheriff Center for UH's annual Thanksgiving tournament were California, No. 22 Virginia, No. 24 Texas.
The California Golden Bears opened the Waikiki Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown with a 69-54 victory over host school Hawaii. Freshman forward Reshanda Gray led the Bears with 16 points.
The California Golden Bears led up until the final minute of their matchup against the No. 24 Texas Longhorns. Even after losing the lead, the Bears had a chance to win with two seconds left, but ended up falling 61-60. Clarendon led the Bears with 13 points. She also had five assists and five rebounds. Brandon led the defensive efforts with 11 rebounds.
The California Golden Bears earned their first win over a ranked opponent since the 2009 post season with a 59-50 victory over the No. 22 Virginia Cavaliers and former Bear head coach Joanne Boyle. Junior guard Layshia Clarendon had a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
