Digital prototyping is a virtual engineering system, aiming at efficient digital product design, analysis, assembly, testing, maintenance, and so on. Along with the increasing of manufacturing complexity, modern high end digital prototyping is increasingly emphasized on the utilization of high-precision numerical simulation for the optimization of product design and virtual reality in immersive designing environments. The presentation outlines enabling technologies of high end digital prototyping, which include CAD model validation and conversion, geometric meshing, parallel and distributed computing, large-scale data visualization and immersive designing environment.
A problem solving environment is a computer system that provides all the computational facilities necessary to solve a target class of problems. In an attempt to make numerical simulation more efficient, visual steering is required for engineering and scientific computation. The presentation addresses aspects of an Enabling Environment for Multidisciplinary Application Simulations (EEMAS). As an example of integrated environments of enabling technology, EEMAS environment is a problem-solving environment for multidisciplinary application simulations. Within the EEMAS, there are four categories of modules involved, namely pre-processing module, computing module, post-processing module, and platform control module.
One of grand challenge applications is combustion simulation. The final part of the presentation introduces achievements in the area of computational combustion, both in software development and computational simulation. The tools used for combustion simulation are featured using full compressible Navier-Stokes equations with finite-rate chemistry reaction. The case studies mentioned are related to subsonic and supersonic combustion.
