At McGaheysville Elementary School, we've been celebrating diversity with events in every classroom in the school. Each grade level planned student activities and projects. On December 2, 2011, we celebrated International Day. Kindergarten had a guest speaker who talked about Hanukah. First Grade created art projects relating to children around the world. Second Grade created sweet shops that will be set up next week filled with international desserts. Third Grade participated in activities for celebrating birthdays in several countries. Fourth Grade had foods from different countries and students dressed up in international costumes. Fifth Grade had foods from different cultures, including foods from student family traditions. Fifth Grade also presented their PowerPoints on student family mottos, favorite activities, traditions and created a family crest. The day ended with Rhythms 'Round the World by Kim and Jimbo Cary, making history come alive through music and song.
