This is just a quick video highlighting the grand opening if Ikea here in Charlotte, NC.

Wednesday was a cold rainy, all around disgusting day, and still there were lines of people outside the store before it opened, there were hundreds of people who camped out on location since that Monday. Some people undoubtedly camped out to get the free chair that was offered to the first 100 people, but how do you explain the thousands of people who were lined up before 9 am Wednesday morning in the freezing rain? What can Ikea teach us about promotions? What can your company learn about creating this kind of demand in a down economy? What does Ikea do different that makes so attractive that people would be willing to stand in the cold and the rain just to shop here?
