The people of Addis Abeba are proud, shy, and generally don’t put a lot of trust into journalists. Only through the help of Sophie Bernard, a french music enthusiast managing bands in Ethiopia’s capital, I was allowed to access the world of the famous Azmari, underground poets and dancers with a century-old tradition. For one night and one day, I accompany the head of the scene, dancer and bar owner Melaku Belaye.
