"Filmed on location at Cap de Creus in Catalunya, this speculative fieldwork imagines a post human space of the vast future."
The film 'After-image' explores the idea of something ephemeral being retained, after the thing itself has passed. In this case, it is the material field we think of as landscape or environment. The film is a projection into this material field, where natural processes will continue to exist – rock becomes smaller rock, becomes compressed, becomes rock, and so on. It has a rhythm played out over millions of years – the single event of geology. The film has different layers of fieldwork embedded within it. First, are the ideas discussed with a cultural geographer regarding the field site – Cap de Creus – natural site, turned tourist destination, since rebuild and rewilded. Then, as a final touch (lest we forget the history of this natural site) it has been decorated with concrete roads and viewing platforms – where interpretation panels guide us the cultural and environmental significance of the project, in that place.
