This video loop was generated in Processing using sine waves mapped to space-filling curves. Phase-shifting the audio waves and pixel-shifting along the curve drive the animation. One set of six low frequency sine waves determined colors, two sets of six high frequency sine waves determined textures. The space-filling Hilbert and Moore curves used here are one-dimensional fractals that fill two dimensions; hence, they are useful for transcoding sound to image. I added a musical track that was intended to loop—hence the lack of a cadence at the end, and the generally undramatic development. The improvisation is based on the chart for Charlie Parker's Confirmation, though worlds away that masterpiece and perennial challenge to improvisers.
