Maarten Van Aalst is the Director of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre. He says that humanitarian organizations have become increasingly aware of the need to anticipate disasters, rather than just wait for them to happen. Climate information will play an important role in disaster preparedness on the scale of weeks and even months ahead of time.
