Normal Thyroid Gland
This video clip represents a normal thyroid gland. The ultrasound starts with the right thyroid lobe. The right lobe is scanned to show the upper, mid and lower right pole. The right neck is then scanned to show the right carotid artery and the jugular vein. These are shown as dark circles to the left of the right lobe. The ultrasound then scans the left thyroid lobe showing the upper, mid and lower left poles. The left neck is then scanned showing the left carotid artery and jugular vein. The final image is the entire thyroid gland surrounding the trachea, or windpipe. The windpipe is the arched shaped structure in the middle of the screen.
