Drained is an investigation into unsafe drinking water in Saskatchewan cities, towns and rural municipalities. In the story “Get the Lead Out” water is flowing from public water mains into private houses pushing high levels of lead into drinking water. Many residents are experiencing health issues and are faced with the choice of paying a steep price to fix the problem or living with the lead. In the story, “The Cost of Water” citizens square off against a municipality over ammonia laced water in Lone Rock – a town where the citizens are anxious to tell us their story. In Copper Sands we investigate a water feud between the owner of a mobile home park and residents, however unlike in Lone Rock, our team is met by a culture of silence.
Drained shines a light on an array of drinking water policies, regulations, responsibility and accountability across layers of government while exploring the human consequences.
