We always strive to create films that are easily recognizable - films that mix emotional moments with beautiful, cinematic images. But if there is one thing that we like in our films, it’s colour. Lots of it. This is one of the main reasons why we love Morocco as much as we do (the other main one being the food, of course). Morocco is just absolutely filled with colour. The buildings, the people, the clothing, the nature..
We’ve only ever been to Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, and a road trip through this beautiful country has long been on our bucket list. So when Claimy from The Souk Department contacted us about the elopement of Donovan & Babette in Essaouira, we were immediately excited. Essaouira is a wonderful coastal town with this beautiful harbour that houses hundreds of small, blue fishing boats. The city rose to fame after Game of Thrones shot an episode there (Season 3 Episode 4 where Daenerys meets The Unsullied Army, if you must know).
Donovan is a DJ, and Babette is a singer - and they are such a lovely couple. We had so much fun during the two days we were in Morocco, together with photographer Yaira from Studio Phylicia and Marianne from Beautiful Bride Company. It’s funny how intimate an experience an elopement can be. Even though you only hang out for a couple of days (or just a day and a half, in our case), you still connect really well and have a great deal of fun.
I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
Shot Blackmagic RAW (4.6K) on a Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro & a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K on a Zhiyun Crane 3 gimbal. Lenses used: Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 and a Sigma 50mm 1.4.
We used a Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/4 filter on each lens.

She married me, in spite of the tribe;
and she travelled with me, in spite of the tribe.
She gave me love and comfort, in spite of the tribe.
And when I used to ask her why,
She would take me against her chest like a child,
and she would say..
“Because you are my tribe.”
