In September 2018, The Peregrine Fund and partners, with generous support from the BAND Foundation and the Whitley Fund for Nature, organized a Wildlife Poisoning Intervention Course in Athi River, Southern Kenya. Following the September 17-20 Wildlife Poisoning Intervention Training Workshop, 35 individuals comprising 24 organizations were trained in the science of effectively and efficiently responding to poisoning events. This involved collecting forensics, samples and decontaminating the site to prevent further fatalities. Five individuals – Benjamin Lemein, Abraham Loomuna, Nasoita Sankok, Benjamin Merumu and Isaac Taraiya were given further intensive training on community awareness, outreach, conflict management and reporting and the use of mobile app Survey123 and African Raptors to collect data. T-shirts entitled “Vulture Protector” along with wrist bands were given to each participant.
