In our passage (1 Timothy 1:12-17) Paul uses his own life to illustrate how sound (gospel-centered) doctrine results in praise, salvation, and sanctification. Up to this point Paul has made the case that the unsound doctrine of the unsound teachers causing problems in Ephesus was unable to deliver. Only the gospel can transform lives, as Paul's own life demonstrates. The key verse in our passage is vs. 15, where we find Paul's trustworthy saying: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. This is the message that radically transformed Paul's life, and that is still transforming lives today. Pray that we would continue to be a church committed to the good news of Jesus Christ and that we would boldly take this message to the lost both near and far for the glory of God! Pray that we would be a church committed to sound doctrine as evidenced in our lives of service, faith, love and praise!
