In 1989, Christina Lockyer, Sc.D. received her doctorate in Zoology from the University of East Anglia; in 2005, she became General Secretary of the North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission, based in Norway. She has worked with or advised numerous agencies: Natural Environment Research Council, Department of Marine Ecology and Aquaculture (Denmark), and Sea World Research Institute. She launched the biological consultancy firm Age Dynamics to investigate and teach age determination methods and marine mammal life history. Her research encompasses population biology, behaviour and ecosystem energetics. Lockyer is a long-term member of advisory committees to the International Whaling Commission (IWC). From 1989 to 1991, she was President of the worldwide Society for Marine Mammalogy.
