Paul E. Nachtigall is the director of the marine mammal research program of the University of Hawaii Marine Mammal Research Program. He is editor emeritus,
and current member of the editorial board for Aquatic Mammals. Paul is also past-President of the Society for Marine Mammalogy. His research primarily focuses on the sensory systems of odontocetes, including current projects on low frequency hearing and temporary threshold shifts, phantom echolocation, echolocation detection of fishing nets to avoid bycatch, evoked auditory potentials
and audiometric studies, hearing in echolocating whales, and rehabilitation and care for stranded cetaceans. Paul’s research has also played a key role in the development of advanced passive sonar systems.
