14,000 immigrant children have been separated and put into detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border and placed in 100 reported detention centers across 17 states. Currently, there is no plan for keeping track of their needs nor for reuniting them with their families.
Meanwhile, the government has paid federal tax dollars in the amount of 459 million dollars (out of 943 million spent this year nationwide) to the financial benefit of private companies who own the detention centers.
This documentary opens up discussions with experts on the current issue and explores the realm of law, academia, psychiatry, politics, and globalization.
The approach is to expose what is happening, how is it happening, what is currently being done about it, and how we will move forward from it with solutions to try to help the issue.
The end goal of the documentary is to further unpack the issue that the milk carton art installation is tackling and present the facts that inspired it in an intelligent and approachable way to generate conversations and positive change.
