Meenalaap is a love story between Yusuf and Zulekha.
Their lives as a lower middle class couple in India get magical when they learn of Zulekha being pregnant. The immigrant Bangla couple make their journey together through the pregnancy.
Both of them work in a stitching factory in the city nearby, traveling to and fro daily through hills and tunnels. Each passing day, they weave a dream together, one cloth at a time.
(Also, Yusuf and Zulaikha (Arabic: يوسف زلیخا) is the Quranic verse of Yusuf (Joseph) and Zulaikha (the person known in the Bible as Potiphar's wife and whose name is not given there). It has been told and retold countless times in many languages spoken by Muslims, especially Persian and Urdu and is capable for Sufi interpretations.)
This film was made as a final year exercise in short /fiction at Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
