On Golden Cap was written in response to young peoples experience of growing up by the coast. The highs and lows, but ultimately the feeling of freedom and beauty in the natural environment. The libretto describes this aesthetic and ultimately ends by ascending the highest point on the Southern Coast of the UK, Golden Cap, near Lyme Regis.
Most of the young people involved had never sung in a choir of this kind before and many of them learnt the entire 17m piece by heart.
Performed by young people in the community in and around Lyme Regis.
Commissioned by B Sharp and Coastal Voices
