360º caravan mapping @FREEMOTE Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands 2011.
The Creative Commons Caravan is the festival file server. Participants and visitors are asked to share their content - that they've made for or during the festival - under a Creative Commons license. In the caravan is computer, a 4Tb hard drive and a wireless router. There are two ways of sharing: log on to the dedicated wireless network and drop your content on the hard drive or go into the caravan with an USB thumbdrive (sold at the festival) to copy it there. Information about creative commons licenses is available around and in the caravan and over the didicated wireless network.
The caravan is mapped by Elektro Moon (http:/elektromoon.co.nr) and video is being played with the caravan as canvas. These are files created specifically for the caravan during mapping workshops, which sometimes is based on video files that participants have uploaded to the caravan. This way the outside of the caravan shows what's available inside. The projection on the caravan is done with two beamers, a laptop and a Matrox Triplehead to go. The mask used for the mapping is also shared, this way other participants can play with the mask/mapping to create their own custom content for the caravan.
The Creative Commons Caravan is a concept by Sebastiaan ter Burg.
