The family of Nicholas Tijerina wanted to speak to the media following the shooting of their son, Nicholas, on Monday, Dec. 12. Nicholas, a 7th grader at Harwell Middle School in Edinburg, Texas, was shot while trying out for the basketball team. Law enforcement suspect that a group of hunters is to blame. Nicholas' injuries range from a puncture in the lung, the bullet going through his spine and trauma to his liver. He is being treated by Dr. Mark Lieser, trauma general surgeon; Dr. Maria Camacho, pediatric intensivist; and Dr. Syed Hussain, a neurosurgeon. His family remains hopeful. This is video from the press conference -- the family's first outreach to the media since the shooting. Held at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas.
