This video is documentation of a video installation at the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, WA in 2007.
The video content was projected out onto a mirror, which bounced the imagery down onto a stretched canvas with a line drawing of a glass on it.
Statement of Work:
In Equilibrium I'm exploring perceptions of dimension and balance by incorporating a simple line drawing of a glass with a projected imagery of moving liquid within a glass. I intend for the video and drawing, as different forms of representation, to work together and defy each other in their unique representations of the same object. A stationary drawn line can indicate volume, but only because I am accustomed to understanding a drawing in such a way. While a shifting plane of liquid can indicate movement, flow or instability, my own momentary stability counteracts the logic. Together they simulate an impossibility of simultaneous movement and stillness, fullness and emptiness through the drawn line and through the rotating and tipping of the liquid.
