On the C&O Canal bike trail, they have these great campsites set up every so many miles, with a port-a-potty and a grassy area, and these wonderful old-school water pumps. Thus begins the video. The next segment is me walking around in awe inside the Sign Post Forest in the Yukon Territories, Canada during my North American tour last year. The signs are in Watson Lake, a small little town where I did a show at the ski lodge, which was great fun.
I've edited in various snippets from live shows over the years - the first one is an oldie from when I was doing duo shows in Appalachia with drummer Dale Thompson. Dale and I are doing a show at a small pizza joint in Weaverville, NC. The next one is a songwriter night jam at Banjo Jim's in the Lower East Side in New York City. Then comes the Vanessa Boyd & Company live performance (Kyle Marshall on bass, Carlos Pecciotto on drums) on WCYB in Bristol, TN, wherein the news anchor read from her teleprompter, word for word, and "here's Vanessa Boyd with her new CD, Title". As in, someone forgot to find out the [title] and fill in the real name, on live TV. Sigh. The last one is an impromptu jam in Kathmandu, Nepal at the Attic Bar, late in the evening, with local musician Sarthak and an American horn player.
The music is from the album Emerge (available on iTunes), which is a live album recorded in Boston, and is based around the Moroccan hajhuj for a sound I dub World Trance Americana. Kyle Marshall on drums.
