Dr Karen Sutherland’s social media students at the University of the Sunshine Coast are immersed in the depth and practicalities of the practice of communication and business principles. Students work with a variety of Sunshine Coast business in a very practical sense, understanding the needs of the business and developing a social media strategy and content pieces. This approach is delivering positive outcomes for the students with some being offered work before the end of their course.
On an individual level, Karen is clear that we should use social media as a tool to enhance our offline life and for businesses to include meaningful offline experiences as part of their social media strategy because they are the things that build strong relationships.
