Building owners often ask architects / engineers about the feasibility of installing a geo system in their new building project. Often the response goes something like: "Well your building is about 80,000 square feet...you'll need about a ton of capacity per 400 square feet...so about 100 tons of equipment. And for the ground loop you'll need about 150'-160' of borehole per ton...so about 15-16,000' of drilling should be about right. Drilling is pretty expensive...probably about $20 / foot, so the ground loop will cost about $300-320,000. That's pretty expensive and gas is pretty cheap these days...you might want to consider a gas boiler." The question is: How can you get reasonably accurate numbers?
