The success of starting up a heat pump is determined by the preparation prior to flipping the circuit breaker. From flushing and purging, to correctly wiring all the power and controls the “surprises” that may occur after flipping on the circuit breaker can be avoided. The preparation begins with performing all the appropriate design calculations, as well as simple QC checks to verify key aspects before turning on the power. After turning on the power, there are many parameters that need to be checked before you can sign off and “turn the keys” over to the homeowner. Understanding and interpreting the various measurements are key to avoiding the costly “callback”. Mr. Manning will draw on his own “scar tissue” as well as from the hundreds of contractors he has worked with since becoming an incurable geojunky in 1982.
