Performing 'Notes on Improvisation' live at Seeing in the Dark.
Performed at Seeing in the Dark, Newcastle upon Tyne, 12th November 2012. 'Notes on Improvisation' is a work, created specifically for Seeing in the Dark, in which improvisation and text are used to converge real and imagined sound events.
Benedict Drew is an artist who’s work crosses video, performance, sound and other media. Much of his work has been based in collaboration most significantly an on going project with artist Emma Hart. They have performed often in the UK and internationally including at the Rotterdam Film Festival, Kill Your Timid Notion, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, ICA London as part of the Nought to Sixty season, Performa 09 New York and most recently at The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art as part of images festival where they received OCAD
Off Screen Award for the installation untitled seven. He has travelled widely presenting work in UK , Japan, USA and Europe. Benedict has also composed the soundtracks for several artists films. He has made many works for radio, most recently the series Unter Radio on Resonance
FM . for many years he curated the London Musicians’ Collective annual festival of experimental music. In March 2012 Drew will work with CIRCA Projects to present his solo show ‘The Persuaders’ in Newcastle upon Tyne as part of AV Festival 12: As Slow As Possible.
Rhodri Davies was born in 1971 in Aberystwyth, Wales and now lives in Gateshead in the northeast of England. He plays harp, electric harp, live-electronics and builds wind, water and fire harp installations. His regular groups include: a duo with John Butcher, The Sealed Knot, a trio with David Toop and Lee Patterson, Common Objects, Cranc, a trio with John Tilbury and Michael Duch, SLW and Apartment House. In 2008 he collaborated with the visual artist Gustav Metzger on ‘Self-cancellation’, a large-scale audio-visual collaboration in London and Glasgow. He also performs and researches contemporary music. New pieces for harp have been composed for him by: Eliane Radigue, Christian Wolff, Ben Patterson, Alison Knowles,
Michael Pisaro, Carole Finer, Mieko Shiomi, Radu Malfatti and Yasunao Tone.
