Inspired by and created for the AWARD Show!, “I made this for you” turns “audience engagement” on its head. Nicole, seated in the audience pre-show, texted me the names of audience members so we could reference them onstage. When the dance “begins” she hobbles onstage with crutches.
An adaptable dance, “I made this for you” changes to reference the circumstances where it is presented. It no longer directly references the AWARD Show! Additions include an embedded talkback; rotating acts from trapeze to tango; a car that drives into the theater; and a final dance party that invites the audience onstage.
