Had former Czech President, statesman, poet, playwright, politician, citizen, musician, and dissident Vaclav Havel (Václav Havel) not been ousted from the Czechoslovak political scene during the early 1990s and still played a role in the governing of the Czech and Slovak Federation (1989-1993), there wouldn't have been a Velvet Divorce, full stop. No. Velvet. Divorce. It wouldn't have happen.
Grand statement from an amateur historian, like me? You betcha...so work with me here for a moment...
I go *deep* into the history of the Former Czechoslovakia (CZE) -- under the enlightened statesmanship of the First Republic's President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk (Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, or "TGM," as he's better known) -- a nation designed as a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual (German, Czech, Slovak, and Ukrainian, in that order of business importance), multi-cultural bastion which rose up from the ruins of the belligerent, bloated, rancorous twin monarchy of Austria-Hungary. It had been another sort of "Age of Aquarius."
Then I draw a line between the Former CZE, Masaryk, and Havel, lacing it all together handily with a massive red and white bow and knot combo.
A humongous stretch, I realize, but I think I get an "A+" for the revisionist effort. Who agrees? ::: please grant the video a "like," if yes :::

And, no, I'm not going to wish you Happy Holidays. That's too cliched for this Canuck's blood...just rest up and get ready for 2012 -- it's going to be a great "New Year," and you've got a lot of work to do.
