In Istanbul recycling work is left to trash collectors. Most of them are Roma families who make their living from selling garbage. They collect it in the night, seperate it, and sell it to the factories.
The families need the little money to survive, but professional companies start to see a lucrative business in recycling and by that take away the only job they have.
A report from Christian Schüller, which aired on ORF (Austrian Public Television) in 2011. Shot by Xoom Media and edited by Studio Istanbul.
