Shimmer, an interactive sculptural installation at the Georgia Museum of Art, is a collaboration between artist Rebecca Rutstein and scientist Samantha Joye who participated in a joint expedition and deep-sea dive in the Gulf of California in 2018. Featuring motion sensors and LED lights that react to the movement of viewers, Shimmer is programmed using actual deep-sea video footage of bioluminescent patterns of communication. Shimmer is meant to connect viewers to the complex life in the deep sea.
