Life is our greatest teacher... if we are open to its lessons. "If you are irritated by every rub, how will you ever be polished?"—Rumi. Our relationships and life struggles evolve us, if we are willing. They are like the "grit" that transforms a rough rock into a beautiful polished piece of art.
When Diane wanted to begin a whole new art project in their basement, Fran balked, "We don't have time, money or space for a rock workshop—all the machinery, noise, and mess!" Plus, she wondered, "What's the point of polishing rocks?!"
But, remembering the guidance from her teacher, that loving another person means to "nurture their potential," Fran let go of her resistance and encouraged Diane's new direction. They cleaned out the basement and welcomed the grinding sounds of saws, tumblers, and sanders.
In this video, Fran and Diane share the profound discovery that this artistic endeavor opened up for them.
Special thanks to the children: Madelynn, Kairos, and Daniella.
