The video F*ck U! In the Most Loving Way (FUIMLW) documents the making of a feminist art exhibition by the curatorial art collective of the Northern California Women's Caucus for Art (NCWCA). The FUIMLW exhibition ran from December 17, 2016 through January 21, 2017 at Arc Gallery, 1246 Folsom Street, San Francisco, with performances and screenings on January 13 and 14, 2017 at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center, 145 9th St, San Francisco. Through interviews with members of the collective and the juror, this documentary video captures the excitement and challenges of mounting a complex national exhibition; the significant investment of unpaid labor required; the constant juggling of multiple jobs, art practice and personal crises; the volatile political climate that forced changes in the direction of the exhibition; and the satisfaction of working collaboratively to complete an ambitious project. Woven throughout this film are the voices of activist artists such as Womanhouse artist Faith Wilding, contemporary artist Emma Sulkowicz, NCWCA artist Judy Shintani, and many others. This film highlights the importance of women having their say and being heard in the public, professional and private spheres. It celebrates revolutionary visions about feminist art activism, focusing on self-expression, self-respect, and self-care.
