Welcome and Announcements
Processional Hymn ~ How Great Thou Art
John’s Life Remembered ~ eulogy read by Mark Pfeifer, son
Special Verse ~ read by Russell Bilton, brother-in-law
You can shed tears because they are gone, or you can smile because they lived. You can close your eyes and pray they will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that they left for you. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see them, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember only that they are gone, or you can cherish their memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind and feel empty, or you can do what they would want…
Smile, Open your heart, Love…and go on.
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Gospel Acclamation Hymn ~ In the Garden
Gospel Reading ~ John 14:1-6
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Sermon ~ Pastor Ed Skutshek
Sermon Hymn ~ It is Well with My Soul
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen
Special Tribute ~ Picture Slide Presentation featuring the songs of Johnny Reid, “Til We Meet Again” & “This is Not Goodbye.”
Postlude by Sandra Hartness
John passed away suddenly on June 9, 2019 at the age of 76 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marie; son, Mark (Heidi); grandchildren Scott and Allison; and sister Irene (Ross) Proud. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. John was proud to have served 34 years as a firefighter in both Calgary (1966-1970) and Delta (1970-1998). He retired to Kelowna where he and Marie travelled extensively with the last trip, to Israel, being just in March. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delta Firefighters Charitable Society, deltafirefighters.com.
