When I came back from working in the Prairies a few years ago, one of the things I wanted to do was do an interview with my mom to talk about her life and get some of the stories that make her who she is. You know, get to know her as the person who started life as a little kid, then grew up, instead of just knowing her as my mom. There was more to her story than that, and I wanted to know it. We always focus on extraordinary lives, but sometimes ordinary lives can be just as interesting.
So late 2010, we sat down and talked for a while and this is the video that came out of it. As chance would have it, this was one of the last opportunities I'd have to do the interview, as my mom lost her ability to speak less than 6 months later.
I'm glad we were able to do this, and I'm thankful I didn't wait too long and lose the opportunity to do it, for all of my family, mom's friends and loved ones.
